India’s Nvidia Vera Rubin AI Infrastructure Bet

India is betting big on the next generation of AI infrastructure. AM Intelligence has reportedly ordered 9,000 Nvidia Vera Rubin systems as part of an $8 billion project designed to turn low-cost renewable electricity into high-value AI compute.

The buildout is expected to begin in Hyderabad with roughly one gigawatt of capacity and could expand to five gigawatts by 2030. We break down the “electron-to-token” strategy, the role of Greenko’s renewable-energy portfolio, demand from cloud providers and AI labs, and the challenges of chip supply, financing and serving global customers over undersea fiber links.

For Nvidia, this could be a major showcase for the Vera Rubin generation. For India, it is a bid to become a global exporter of advanced AI computing power.

What to watch

Proposed capacity should be separated from commissioned capacity. Chip supply, financing, grid connections, and international connectivity all affect whether a project can serve customers at the intended scale. Renewable-energy resources are one advantage, but they do not remove every operational bottleneck.
