Moonshot Kimi K3 and Global Cloud Hosting Talks

China’s Moonshot AI is negotiating with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud to host its massive Kimi K3 open-weight model. The startup may seek up to 30% of K3-related cloud revenue—an unusual cross-border business opportunity unfolding amid U.S.–China AI security tensions, chip export restrictions and questions about data access and token auditing.

Kimi K3 has 2.8 trillion parameters and has posted strong benchmark results, but its enormous computing needs make major cloud platforms essential for enterprise adoption. This Short explains why the talks could reshape AI cloud competition, open-model commercialization and the global race for lower-cost frontier AI.

What to watch

Negotiations are not completed hosting agreements. A large model’s benchmarks also do not settle deployment economics or data-governance questions. Enterprises will need clarity about the hosting arrangement, access controls, auditing, and the practical costs of serving their workloads.
